REGISTRATION OF FISHERIES AND AQUATIC ANIMAL HOLDINGS: AN UPDATE

It is anticipated the Aquatic Animal Health (England and Wales) Regulations will be implemented on the 27 March 2009. For registration of fisheries there will be a period of transition up to the 1st August 2009. After that date the Environment Agency will not issue netting or stocking consents for unregistered waters. There are two categories of registration:

1.Fisheries – waters which are fished recreationally or commercially (other than rivers and canals). Apply to register a fishery using the RW1 Form.

2.Aquatic Animal Holdings – waters that are not fished but are cropping or harvesting waters with a sufficiently low risk of disease spread, due to low numbers of fish movements, that full authorisation may not be required. The final decision as to whether a site is registered or authorised remains with the FHI. Apply to register an aquatic animal holding using the RW2 Form
