The Aquatic Animal Health (England and Wales) Regulations 2009

Under the new Aquatic Animal Health Directive (EC Directive 2006/88/EC) all stocked fisheries must be registered with the competent authority, in this case the Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) based at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas).

The registration will require a named person, normally the owner, lease holder, or manager to take responsibility for the waters. That person must provide all reasonable help and access in the event of a fish mortality problem and must report any suspicion of a notifiable disease to the FHI.

Here is an RW1 Application form and an explanatory leaflet giving further information. It is a legal requirement for fisheries to be registered and we would recommend that you register with the FHI as soon as possible. After the 1 August 2009 the Environment Agency will no longer grant removal consents and section 30 introductions to non-registered fisheries. However you can still register after this date.
