Authorised Aquaculture Production Businesses (APBs) movements

Movements of live fish from authorised farms

Movements between authorised farms (refered to as Aquaculture Production Businesses) can take place without licence or prior consent - providing the movement is recorded by both the supplier and receiver within their movements book.

Also the fish, eggs or gametes must not, at the time of sale or transfer:

  • show clinical signs of disease
  • be intended for destruction under an official disease eradication scheme
  • come from a farm subject to a statutory disease control

Movements to any other inland waters require Section 30 consent from the Environment Agency.

Movement and sale of dead fish from authorised farms

There are no restrictions on the sale or movement of dead fish - unless the farm is subject to a statutory disease control. In this case, additional conditions may be imposed, such as for evisceration (the removal of the internal organs of the fish).

However, you must follow rules designed to safeguard public health. Further details are available from your local authority's Environmental Health Department.
