Movements of live fish from Registered Farm Sites within England and Wales

Pond being netted and fish moved to transporterMovements to other Registered Fish Farms can take place without any licence or consent, providing the fish, eggs or gametes meet the following criteria and the movement is recorded by both the supplying and receiving sites as required under the Registration of Fish Farming and Shellfish Farming Businesses Order 1985.

At the time of sale or transfer the live farmed fish, eggs or gametes must not:

  • show any clinical signs of disease at the time of loading for despatch.
  • be intended for destruction or slaughter under an official disease eradication scheme.
  • come from a farm which is subject to a statutory disease control such as a 30 day notice or designated area order (DAO)

Movements to any other inland waters additionally require Section 30 consent from the Environment Agency.
