The Environment Agency and Fish Health Inspectorate Mortality Investigations – Working Together Document
As government Agencies with responsibility to protect the aquatic environment it is inevitable that there will be areas where the work of the Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) and the Environment Agency overlap, most notably with regard to the investigation of fishery mortalities. As regulatory authorities we endeavour to work together in a cost effective and efficient manner to ensure minimal burden to the industry sectors we serve.
To assist this process the document ‘Mortality Investigations – Working Together’ outlines the areas of responsibility falling to each Agency and how we work together to investigate fishery mortalities. The procedures in place mean that by reporting a fishery mortality to either Agency, both will be made aware of the event, allowing more advice to be given to help the fishery recover and prevent the spread of disease.
Please note that this is an internal working document for use between the Fish Health Inspectorate and the Environment Agency. It has been made available to the public for information purposes only.
